PERKESO Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam: Extended Protection for Employees Starting 1 June 2026

The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has introduced the Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam, effective from 1 June 2026, to provide broader social security protection for employees in Malaysia.
Previously, PERKESO mainly covered accidents that occurred during working hours or while travelling to and from work. Under this new scheme, employees will also be protected against certain accidents that happen outside working hours and are not related to their employment.
What is Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam?
Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam, also known as the Non-Employment Injury Scheme, provides 24-hour protection to
eligible employees throughout their period of employment.
The objective of the scheme is to ensure that employees receive financial and medical assistance when they suffer accidents outside the scope of their work activities. This enhances social protection and provides peace of mind to employees and their families.
Who is Covered?
The scheme covers:
Malaysian employees
Foreign employees
Contract employees
Part-time employees
provided they are registered and contributing under PERKESO.
Existing employees who are already registered with PERKESO do not need to be registered again, as coverage
will be applied automatically.
What Types of Accidents Are Covered?
The scheme covers accidents occurring in Malaysia that are not related to employment.
Examples include:
✅ Falling at home
✅ Road accidents during personal travel
✅ Accidents while returning to hometown during festive seasons
✅ Injuries during family vacations within Malaysia
✅ Accidents during sports or recreational activities
✅ Injuries while performing personal or religious activities
✅ Accidents while carrying out repairs at home
In simple terms, if the accident is personal in nature and not connected to the employee’s job, it may be covered
under this scheme.
What Benefits Can Employees Receive?
Employees who suffer eligible accidents may receive various benefits, including:
1. Temporary Disablement Benefit
Financial assistance during the certified medical leave period when the employee is unable to work due to injury.
2. Permanent Disablement Benefit
Compensation for employees who suffer permanent disability resulting from the accident.
3. Medical Benefit
Free medical treatment at PERKESO panel clinics or Government hospitals, subject to PERKESO’s conditions.
4. Rehabilitation Services
Support such as:
Physiotherapy
Occupational therapy
Prosthetic devices
Wheelchairs
Hearing aids
Vocational rehabilitation and return-to-work programmes
5. Constant Attendance Allowance
Employees with severe permanent disability who require continuous care may receive an allowance of RM500 per
month.
6. Dependants’ Benefit
Financial support for eligible dependants if the employee passes away due to a covered accident.
7. Funeral Benefit
A funeral benefit of up to RM3,000 may be paid to eligible family members or the person who bears the funeral
expenses.
8. Education Benefit
Eligible dependants may apply for educational assistance subject to PERKESO’s terms and conditions.
What Is Not Covered?
The scheme does not cover:
❌ Work-related accidents (these remain covered under the Employment Injury Scheme)
❌ Accidents occurring outside Malaysia
❌ Self-inflicted injuries or suicide attempts
❌ Accidents involving criminal activities
❌ Fraudulent claims
❌ Illnesses or diseases that are not caused by accidents
❌ Employees who are not contributing to the scheme when required
Contribution Rate
The contribution is fully borne by employees.
Contribution rates are as follows:
Period Contribution Rate
1 June 2026 – 31 May 2028 0.75%
1 June 2028 – 31 May 2031 1.00%
From 1 June 2031 onwards 1.25%
The contribution is calculated based on monthly wages, subject to the current salary ceiling of RM6,000.
For example:
Salary RM3,000 → Contribution RM22.50 per month
Salary RM6,000 → Contribution RM45.00 per month
Employer’s Responsibilities
Employers are responsible for:
Deducting the employee’s contribution from payroll
Submitting contributions to PERKESO on time
Registering newly hired employees with PERKESO
The first contribution for June 2026 must be paid by 15 July 2026.
PERKESO has also announced a six-month grace period from the implementation date, during which employers
will not be subject to penalties specifically related to non-compliance with the new scheme.
Conclusion
The introduction of Skim LINDUNG 24 Jam marks a significant enhancement to Malaysia’s social security system.
Employees will now enjoy broader protection beyond workplace accidents, helping to safeguard their income,
health, and family welfare when unexpected accidents occur during their personal time.
Both employers and employees should familiarise themselves with the new requirements to ensure compliance
and maximise the protection available under this scheme.
